July 9th 2011
Brookings, SD

Thank you everyone who helped make the 2010 Beef and Eggs 5k another successful one. We yet again had another record turnout of just under 250 race finishers, which was over 20 more than last year's record 224. Thank you volunteers, sponsors, and the Brookings community for allowing us to continue the Beef and Eggs tradition! A special thanks to the Meyer Orthodontics, South Dakota Cattlemen's Auxiliary, Mac's Catering, Cubby's Sports Bar and Grill, First Bank and Trust, Foerster Distributing, Brookings HyVee, South Dakota State University, Brookings Police Department, Bartlings Shoes, Perkins, and Prairie Graphics.

Thunderstorms loomed overhead leading up to the 2010 8:00am starting time, but the showers just missed and the race went off as scheduled. On the men's side, defending champ Michael Krsnak pushed the pace early through the mile mark before being taken over by eventual race winner Chris Gruenhagen. Course record holder Brad Lowery also moved up through the second mile, but Gruenhagen had opened too big a gap to be caught on the slight downhill finish. Gurenhagen, a 2007 SDSU graduate, became the only male to earn a double victory in Beef and Eggs 6 year history, his first coming in 2008. Alan King would hold on for 3rd place, just edging out Krsnak at the line. The women touted a deep field, with the top 4 all going well under 19 minutes. Jen VanOtterlo lead the charge to become only the second woman to ever break 18 minutes at Beef and Eggs by running 17:59. Behind Jen, Becky Waterman was able to win the battle for second over Jill Kiaverkamp, finishing in 18:29 and 18:32 respectively. Molly Clark also broke 19 minutes, finishing in 18:43 for fourth.

Results will be posted on the Prairie Striders website soon...www.prairiestriders.net. Please contact us if you see any problems with results as a few race numbers may have gotten out of order. Check back here in the next few weeks for results, updates, and pictures from the 2010 Beef and Eggs 5k. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you on July 9th, 2011.
