The 2007 Run for Beef and Eggs 5k was once again blessed with perfect weather, prompting another record turnout of 175 total race finishers. Former Jackrabbit standout Brad Lowery, now running for Team USA Minnesota, traveled back to Brookings from his new home in the Twin Cities and smashed the course record, crossing the line in 14:39. Following Brad was Chris Gruenhagen, who pulled away from Olympian Rod DeHaven during the second mile, finishing in 15:14. DeHaven rounded out the money men to finish third in 15:20. All three men went under the previous course record of 15:34 set last year by Marshall Kambestad.

On the women's side, recient SDSU graduate Becka Mansheim also cruised to her first Beef & Eggs victory, upseting 2 time defending champ Sheena Dauer. Mansheim finished in a personal best of 18:07 to take home the $250 first place prize. Dauer, course record holder and coming fresh off an injury, had a magnificent run to finish 2nd, just out-edging current Jackrabbit runner Caitlin Berry in 18:55 and 18:56 respectively.

More food is the order for next year. Even with a slight delay on the second round of eggs, they were devoured quickly. We would like to thank our main sponsors for 2007; First Bank & Trust, South Dakota Cattlewomen's Auxiliary, Cubby's Sports Bar and Grill, and David Meyer Orthodontics. We would also like to thank Vy-Vee, Foerster Distributing, Bartling's Shoes, and Staurolite Inn for their generous contributions. And of course, thanks to all our volunteers and participants. We hope to see you again in 2008!

Run for Beef & Eggs was created to give the community of Brookings and surrounding area the best road race possible. Not only does the race give elite runners in the area a chance to compete for top cash prizes, but also gives families and community members a chance to enjoy a short tour of Brookings while getting some exercise and, of course, some breakfast! Run for Beef & Eggs provides a fast, shaded course, race t-shirt, door prizes, top cash prizes, and a complete Beef & Eggs breakfast!

During race weekend Brookings also hosts the Brookings Summer Arts Festival (www.bsaf.com), where over 400 artist and food vendors, children's activities, a living history area and entertainment on 4 stages attract thousands from around the region.
